Why Payday and Game Day Are the Riskiest Hours in Recovery
Relapse rarely happens at random. It clusters around money arriving and events starting. Planning for those two windows changes your odds more than anything else.

Ask a room full of people in gambling recovery when they last slipped and the answers cluster hard: the day money landed, or the hour a big event started.
That is useful, because a predictable risk can be planned for. A vague one cannot.
Payday
- Move money the moment it arrives, not at the end of the day.
- Automate bills to leave the same day so the balance is never a temptation.
- Have a person you check in with on payday specifically.
- Keep the reachable balance small enough that a bet would be obvious.
Game day
- Decide before the day whether you are watching at all, and where.
- If you watch, watch with someone who knows your situation.
- Leave the phone in another room during the event.
- Book a meeting inside the same window rather than after it.
Write the plan down
Plans held only in your head do not survive the moment they were made for. Two sentences on paper, or a note on your fridge, is enough: what I will do, and who I will call.
This is not superstition. It is the same reason hospitals use checklists, under pressure, memory is unreliable and written instructions are not.
